Fantapazz, a new version in Swift.
Fantapazz is a fantasy football platform. When my collaboration began, it already had an Objective-C iOS app. The project was to rethink it with a new interface, user experience and features. As a freelancer and the sole iOS developer, I worked directly with the product leads to co-design and build the new Swift client from scratch.
From discussion to release
Product discussions informed the technical decisions. I worked on the iOS experience, architecture, interface development and integrations, turning the needs agreed with the product leads into an app ready to use. It was an opportunity to bring design considerations and responsibility for the code together.
The team also included an Android developer and a web/backend developer. I was responsible for the iOS client, working with the people building the other parts of the platform. Working together helped me connect the iOS interface with the services behind it.
In summer 2018, we published the new Swift version, replacing the existing Objective-C client. My first app was live! It was the point at which the design and development work became a product ready to reach users.
End-to-end responsibility
Being the sole iOS developer meant following the client’s entire lifecycle: architectural decisions, interface details, integrations, release preparation and managing the app on the App Store. The work continued after publication, supporting the product as it evolved.
The collaboration continued until December 2019, alongside my work at SkyIT. Fantapazz taught me to connect discussions with the people defining the product, technical implementation and the responsibility of delivery. It is one of the experiences that taught me to look at an app as a whole, from the first conversation through to its presence on the Store.
